BIOGRAPHY
Bud Gordinier began his formal studies at the Meinzinger School of Art in Detroit after his discharge from the Army Medical Corps in 1955. He took life classes under George Rich, one of Robert Henri’s many students, and the illustration program that led to a successful career with major national and regional corporate accounts. He later earned his Associates Degree in arts at the Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan. Gordinier concluded his formal training with fine arts courses under Robert Wilbert at Wayne State University in Detroit, and later earned his BFA in painting under Sheldon Eiden at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. He and his wife, Pat, moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1979, and recently to Hunt, Texas in 2004 where he now enjoys exploring the light and shadow of the Texas landscape. Although strongly impressionist in style, his admiration for the poetry of tonalism is evident. Gordinier’s devotion to a rural way of life and nature in general is apparent in his subject matter. His current work is primarily on a commission basis.
Gordinier didn’t become fully involved in oil painting until 1993. Since then, his paintings are found in many private and corporate collections in California, Michigan, Virginia and Texas. Permanent venues include the Warren, Michigan Historical Society Museum, the Museum of Aeronautical History in Kalamazoo, Michigan and the White House Apple Products offices in Winchester, Virginia. He won Best of Show in a Teagle & Little (publisher) national litho-print competiton featuring the portrait of Confederate General, John Hunt Morgan. Gordinier has shown in many successful one-man, and juried shows, primarily in Virgina. He is a former member of The American Society of Classical Realists, The Richmond Artists Association, Knickerbocker Artists, and is presently a member of the Kerrville Arts and Cultural Center. His work is always signed with his given name, H.C. Gordinier.
